Meet the Evening Emcee
9News Sports Anchor Susie Wargin!

Susie joined 9NEWS in September 2001 as the station’s Prep Sports Anchor. Three years later, she was hired to be the weekday Sports Anchor for 9News 5am and 6am (which now also includes 7 & 8am on My20!). In addition, she also hosts the Steve Fairchild Show in the fall and recently won her first Emmy after years of being what she refers to as, “the Susan Lucci of Denver TV!”
Born in Denver and raised in Broomfield, Susie began her communications career in Fort Collins as a radio intern while going to college at Colorado State University.
With a degree in Speech Communications from CSU, she began her career at KIIX-AM as a Board Operator. Like most people that get into |
radio, her dream was to be a DJ…a dream that came true in December of '92 when she was asked to DJ Christmas day for KTCL, the FM sister station to KIIX.
From there, Susie worked three years of overnights and weekends. But, as we all know, paying dues is a part of business and in November of 1995 she landed the midday shift at KBPI radio, where she gladly "Rocked the Rockies" for the better part of 9 years.
While she loved music, her main passion was and is sports. In February of 1998 she began anchoring sports updates during "The Zoo" on 850-KOA and eventually became the first female sports reporter for KOA. During that time, she also spent two years as the radio sideline reporter for Colorado State football games and hosted a variety of sports programming for KOA.
Susie and her husband Mike have two fabulous kids, Justin and Samantha whom she enjoys spending her free time with and sharing her passion for all of Denver’s professional sports teams. |
