REALTORS® Giving Back

Good citizenship shines through an organization and Denver Board of REALTORS® is no exception. Members of the Denver Board give to and participate in a variety of charitable organizations, including the Metro Denver REALTOR® Foundation and the Colorado Association of REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation (CARHOF).

Metro Denver REALTOR® Foundation (MDRF)

The Metro Denver Realtor® Foundation is a charitable organization charged with giving to improve the growing Denver metropolitan community by supporting projects that promote affordable housing, improve neighborhoods, and enhance educational opportunities.

Since its inception, MDRF has returned over a half million dollars to communities in the form of education scholarships, affordable housing programs, and community projects such as the Colfax Network, Interfaith Task Force, and the Gateway Battered Women’s Shelter.

Who is the Metro Denver REALTOR® Foundation?

The MDRF is a 501(c )3 corporation established in 1989and includes the:

  • Denver Board of REALTORS®
  • Denver Metropolitan Commercial Association of REALTORS®
  • South Metropolitan Denver REALTOR® Association
  • Aurora Association of REALTORS®
  • Jefferson County Association of REALTORS®
  • North Metro Denver Association of REALTORS®

Each member of the participating organization is also a member of the Foundation. This gives more than 15,000 individual area REALTORS® an opportunity to give back to the communities in which they do business.

How Can REALTORS® Participate?

Members and non-members can participate in the work of the Foundation in a variety of ways.

  1. Tree of Life Program. The primary fundraising vehicle of the foundation, this campaign offers donors a chance to purchase leaves ($250) and stones ($2,500) that are inscribed and placed on a Recognition Tree in the lobby of their respective board/association offices.
  2. Buck-a-Deal Program. The “Buck a Deal” program asks REALTORSâ to donate one dollar for each side of a transaction completed during the year. While the program seeks one dollar per side of each transaction participated in, contributions are not limited to just one dollar. Fifty percent of these funds go to the Foundation endowment fund, where earnings accumulate for charitable giving. The other 50% of funds received are immediately available for the Foundation’s charitable giving programs.
  3. Special Events. Attend and support the MDRF Annual Golf Classic, the Stapleton Stampede, and other special fundraising events. You can sponsor or just attend and have a good time for a great cause.

Colorado
Association of REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation (CARHOF)

CARHOF is a charitable foundation created for the purpose of promoting safe, decent and affordable housing for all in Colorado. CARHOF is a 501(c )3 charitable foundation and contributions are tax deductible.

Who Does CARHOF Help?

CARHOF helps the homeless, victims of domestic violence, first-time homebuyers, families threatened with eviction or losing their homes, victims of a natural disaster, and more. Only housing organizations are eligible for funding and they must be based in Colorado with a 501(c)3 status or be a public agency. Individuals should contact their local housing agencies for information about available assistance programs.

How can REALTORS® support CARHOF?

  1. Ask your title company to deposit earnest money in a CARHOF account. When a homebuyer gives earnest money to purchase a house, a REALTOR® deposits it into an interest-bearing account. By law, interest cannot be earned on this money. However, interest can be earned if a foundation uses the money to promote affordable housing in Colorado.
  2. Buy raffle tickets for CARHOF’s annual, “Take a Trip on CARHOF” fundraiser. Each year, REALTORS® give generously for the chance to win a fabulous vacation. Watch for your chance this year!
  3. Make a tax deductible donation. Contact the Colorado Association of REALTORS® at (303) 790-7099.
